Fundraisers Involving Food
In order to comply with health department regulations and ensure food safety, submit the "Health Department Bake Sale Application" to the Monongalia Health Department prior to having a fundraiser involving the sale of food. This will assist in protecting student organizations from liability and ensure food safety.
- Health Department Bake Sale Application
- Health Department Non-profit Exemption Application (must have a 501(C)3 non-profit status)
- Health Department Temporary Food Establishment Application
Bake Sale Items (Bake Sale Applications Required): Non-potentially hazardous food includes fruit pies, dry goods and cereals, unconstituted dehydrated foods and baked goods. Other examples are cookies, breads, cakes, potato chips, popcorn, cotton candy, and candy bars.
Potentially Hazardous Food (Temporary Food Service Applications Required):is any food that requires temperature control because it is in a form capable of supporting the rapid and progressive growth of infectious or toxigenic microorganisms, such as eggs, meat, poultry, fish, and dairy foods. Examples are hamburgers, tacos, hot dogs, chili, and cream pies. Raw seed sprouts, cooked rice, potatoes, and beans are also considered to be potentially hazardous because they will support rapid bacterial growth.

NOTE: If there are multiple fundraisers being held in one year or a semester,
organizations can submit the Health Department Bake Sale Application at one time with all the dates on the applications.
NOTE: The food handlers training is
required when selling potentially hazardous food, but
recommended
for bake sales. The health department encourages those running the bake sale to
have food safety training. It is not required that everyone preparing or wrapping
the food have the training.
